Arsenal’s New Signing Opens Up on Why He Left Man Utd for the Gunners
Arsenal have officially brought in Manchester United academy graduate James Scanlon, with the young attacker revealing why he decided to leave Old Trafford and begin a new chapter in north London.
Scanlon, who turns 20 next month, spent the second half of last season on loan at League Two club Swindon Town, helping the side secure a ninth-place finish.
He returned to Manchester United in the summer before completing his move to Arsenal, with the club confirming the signing on Saturday. Speaking after the transfer, Scanlon said he was delighted to join and eager to get started.
Explaining what attracted him to Arsenal, the Gibraltar international highlighted the club’s ambition and determination to continue improving.
Scanlon admitted he was impressed by the positive atmosphere around the Gunners and their desire to achieve even greater success. He also believes he can make a valuable contribution to the team’s future.
The attacking midfielder described himself as a creative player who enjoys scoring goals and creating opportunities for teammates. He hopes his style can entertain Arsenal supporters and make an impact on the pitch.
Despite being part of Manchester United’s setup, Scanlon never made a senior appearance for the club. However, he was named in their squad for the Europa League clash with Real Sociedad in March 2025.
Arsenal Could Land Another Man Utd Academy Product
Scanlon may not be the only Manchester United academy graduate heading to Arsenal this summer, with the Gunners also reportedly nearing an agreement for defender Habeeb Ogunneye.
The 20-year-old is expected to feature mainly for Arsenal’s Under-21 team but could also have opportunities to train with the senior squad.
Ogunneye recently confirmed his departure from United after 15 years with the club, thanking those who had been part of his journey before declaring that he was ready for the next chapter of his career.
