Liverpool have reportedly been offered the opportunity to sign Ronald Araujo permanently from Barcelona ahead of schedule, with the Spanish club open to discussing an early January transfer.
According to TEAMtalk, Barcelona have approached Liverpool about converting the Uruguayan defender’s current loan deal into a permanent move, with discussions between both clubs already underway.
Araujo Impressing at Anfield
The 27-year-old has made an impressive start to his Liverpool career, quickly becoming a valuable member of Andoni Iraola’s squad.
Since arriving from Barcelona, Araujo has made 13 appearances, showcasing his versatility by playing both right-back and centre-back.
Liverpool are reportedly satisfied with his performances and are considering keeping him beyond his current loan spell. His physical strength, recovery speed, defensive ability and experience at the highest level make him an attractive long-term option.
The defender is also believed to be happy at Liverpool and interested in continuing his career at Anfield.
Barcelona Ready to Negotiate January Exit
Barcelona are reportedly prepared to let Araujo leave in January as they look to raise funds for their own defensive recruitment plans.
The initial loan agreement included an option to make the transfer permanent for €55 million (£47 million).
However, Barcelona are now willing to bring forward the deal and negotiate his departure during the January transfer window.
Liverpool would reportedly prefer to pay between £40 million and £45 million to secure his services permanently.
However, Barcelona’s financial demands could make it difficult for the Reds to negotiate a significant reduction.
Araujo’s impressive performances and ability to cover multiple defensive positions have strengthened Liverpool’s interest in making his move permanent.
