Tottenham Reportedly Open Discussions With European Coach As Pressure Mounts On De Zerbi

Tottenham Consider Eddie Howe as De Zerbi Faces Growing Pressure

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly considering former Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe as a possible replacement for Roberto De Zerbi if the Italian’s difficult start to the season eventually leads to a change in the dugout.

Pressure has increased on De Zerbi following a disappointing opening to the 2026/27 campaign. Spurs entered the international break at the bottom of the Premier League table after failing to win any of their first five league matches. Their early struggles were compounded by a Carabao Cup exit against Liverpool.

With questions now being raised about De Zerbi’s future, Tottenham’s hierarchy could reportedly begin assessing potential alternatives should they decide to make a managerial change.

One name reportedly being considered is Eddie Howe. According to Football Insider, former Tottenham scout Bryan King believes the experienced English coach could be a suitable candidate if De Zerbi is dismissed.

Howe’s previous Premier League experience with Bournemouth and Newcastle is seen as a major factor in his favour. The 48-year-old is currently without a club after leaving Newcastle during the summer following almost five years at St James’ Park.

The former Newcastle boss has also been linked with Tottenham in the past. TEAMtalk reported in February that Howe’s name had previously been discussed at board level as Spurs considered potential managerial targets.

However, there is currently no indication that Tottenham have contacted Howe or opened formal negotiations with him. For now, his name appears to be part of the wider discussion surrounding possible replacements, while De Zerbi remains in charge.

With Spurs continuing to struggle, speculation over De Zerbi’s future is likely to grow, and Howe could become a serious name in the conversation if Tottenham eventually decide to take a different direction.
