Liverpool were left without a penalty despite Yehor Yarmolyuk being sent off for headbutting Jeremy Jacquet inside Brentford’s penalty area.
After a VAR review, the referee showed the Brentford midfielder a straight red card for violent conduct.
However, Liverpool were not awarded a spot-kick because the ball was not in play when the incident happened.
According to IFAB Law 12, a penalty can only be awarded for an offence committed while the ball is in play.
The decision has left fans stunned, with many questioning a rule that could change how similar incidents are judged. 🤯⚽
