Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly been handed a major boost in their pursuit of Sandro Tonali after fresh reports claimed one of the Premier League’s biggest clubs is not planning to join the race for the Newcastle United F.C. midfielder, giving Spurs renewed confidence in their bid.
New Tottenham boss Roberto De Zerbi is eager to strengthen his midfield this summer, with Tonali emerging as one of his top targets. Spurs are reportedly willing to break their transfer record again after already investing heavily in Mateus Fernandes, signalling that their spending spree is far from finished.
Recent speculation suggested Manchester City F.C. could rival Tottenham for the Italian international, but sources now indicate Spurs remain optimistic about securing the deal. Their confidence has grown further following claims that another top English club has no intention of making a move.
Despite having the financial strength to compete for elite players, the unnamed club is reportedly not considering Tonali a priority. Insiders have dismissed rumours of a late bid, insisting the Newcastle star is not among their key transfer targets.
A major reason is Newcastle’s reported £100 million asking price, with the club believed to view that valuation as excessive while focusing on strengthening other areas of the squad instead of signing another central midfielder.
Although that position could change later in the transfer window if circumstances shift, there is currently no indication they will challenge Tottenham for Tonali’s signature.
As a result, Spurs are thought to be in a stronger position as they prepare another approach to convince Newcastle to sell. Reports suggest Tottenham are ready to submit an improved offer worth around £100 million.
In addition to the sizeable transfer fee, De Zerbi’s side are also reportedly prepared to offer Tonali a lucrative contract worth around £250,000 per week, underlining their determination to bring the former A.C. Milan midfielder to North London.
With rival interest appearing to cool and Tottenham ready to back De Zerbi with a record-breaking financial package, the race for Tonali’s signature is increasingly viewed as moving in Spurs’ favour.
