Liverpool Eye Surprise Move for Spurs Star as Transfer Battle Heats Up
Liverpool are reportedly considering a move to hijack another Premier League club’s pursuit of a highly-rated Tottenham defender this summer.
New Liverpool boss Andoni Iraola is already shaping his squad following his arrival at Anfield, with the Reds remaining heavily linked to RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande despite seeing an initial £87 million offer rejected. Reports suggest Leipzig would prefer to keep the Ivorian star for another season, although speculation continues that a breakthrough could arrive soon.
The Reds have already strengthened their attack by signing Spanish winger Victor Munoz from Osasuna after activating his £34.6 million release clause, beating Newcastle United to the deal.
Now, attention has shifted to Tottenham youngster Luka Vuskovic. The 19-year-old Croatian defender impressed during a loan spell at Hamburger SV last season, scoring six goals in 30 appearances, and is attracting growing interest across Europe.
Brighton appeared to be leading the race after reportedly agreeing personal terms and submitting bids, but Spurs are believed to value the defender closer to £60 million. According to reports, Liverpool and Manchester United are now closely monitoring the situation and could attempt to snatch the player away from the Seagulls.
With Liverpool looking to strengthen their defence following Ibrahima Konate’s departure, Vuskovic is viewed as a long-term option. Bayern Munich, Chelsea and Barcelona are also said to be keeping tabs on the Croatian talent.
Addressing the transfer speculation, Vuskovic insisted his focus remains on the World Cup with Croatia.
> “I’m not thinking too much about it right now. My focus is on the World Cup. My goal is to join a club where I’ll play regularly and feel wanted, and we’ll see what happens over the next few days or weeks,” he said.
