Liverpool have reportedly set their sights on Tottenham Hotspur defender Micky van de Ven as a potential replacement for Ibrahima Konaté this summer, but securing his signature could prove extremely difficult.
The 25-year-old Dutch centre-back has emerged as one of the Premier League’s standout defenders thanks to his remarkable speed, defensive awareness, and ability to recover in dangerous situations. As Liverpool search for a long-term partner for Virgil van Dijk, Van de Ven is believed to be high on their shortlist.
However, Tottenham are unwilling to entertain the idea of a sale. New manager Roberto De Zerbi reportedly sees Van de Ven as a key figure in his plans to rebuild the squad and strengthen the club’s defence. After a disappointing campaign, Spurs are focused on building around their best players rather than cashing in on them.
Former scout Mick Brown believes Liverpool’s interest is understandable given the defender’s quality, but insists Tottenham are determined to keep hold of one of their most valuable assets.
With Van de Ven tied to a contract until 2029, Liverpool would likely need to submit a huge offer even to begin negotiations. While the Reds may admire the Dutchman, Tottenham appear ready to resist any approach.
