Andoni Iraola’s next transfer target emerges as fresh Djed Spence-to-Liverpool update drops

Liverpool’s Next Transfer Priority Revealed as Fresh Djed Spence Update Emerges

Liverpool are expected to continue their busy summer transfer business, with a move for Paris Saint-Germain winger Bradley Barcola reportedly close to completion. However, the Reds are not planning to stop there.

The club are also interested in PSG youngster Ibrahim Mbaye, while reports suggest Liverpool could turn their attention to strengthening the defence once their attacking deals are wrapped up.

Liverpool have already added Victor Munoz and Jeremy Jacquet this summer, but manager Andoni Iraola is still looking to improve his squad ahead of the new season.

Barcola has reportedly agreed personal terms with Liverpool, although negotiations with PSG remain ongoing. The French club are believed to be demanding around £146 million for the winger.

Liverpool are also prepared to pay PSG’s reported £43 million asking price for Mbaye, who operates primarily on the right wing.

Defensive concerns have also emerged during pre-season. With Conor Bradley recovering from injury, supporters have called for Liverpool to bring in another right-back to provide cover for Jeremie Frimpong.

The centre-back position is an even bigger concern, with Joe Gomez currently injured and Virgil van Dijk reportedly the only fully fit senior centre-back available. Jacquet and Giovanni Leoni are also dealing with injuries, although Jacquet is expected to return in the coming weeks.

Fabrizio Romano gives Djed Spence update

Tottenham right-back Djed Spence has recently been linked with a possible move to Liverpool, but transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has played down suggestions of active negotiations.

Romano stated that he is currently unaware of any movement involving Spence, despite the reports linking the defender with a switch to Anfield.

Instead, he believes Liverpool could prioritise signing another centre-back before the transfer window closes.

Aston Villa’s Ezri Konsa has been mentioned as one potential target, with Liverpool reportedly admiring his ability to operate both centrally and at right-back. Arsenal are also said to be monitoring the England international.

Liverpool have additionally been encouraged to consider bringing back Jarell Quansah, although his £70 million buy-back clause will not become active until 2027.

Fikayo Tomori and Borussia Dortmund defender Nico Schlotterbeck have also been linked with possible moves to Anfield.

With the transfer window closing on September 1, Liverpool still have plenty of time to make further additions, but the latest reports suggest a new centre-back could be a bigger priority than signing Spence.
