Allardyce urges Trent Alexander-Arnold to consider Liverpool return
Sam Allardyce believes Trent Alexander-Arnold should consider returning to Liverpool if he fails to secure regular playing time at Real Madrid.
The former England manager feels the 27-year-old needs to establish himself as a key player in Madrid this season. However, with his role still uncertain following Denzel Dumfries’ arrival and his recent experiment in midfield under José Mourinho, Allardyce believes a Premier League return could make sense.
“If he’s going to remain a Real Madrid player, he needs to be playing more than ever this season. If that doesn’t happen, he should come back to the Premier League,” Allardyce said on the No Tippy Tappy Football podcast.
He also suggested that Liverpool could benefit from having their former academy graduate back.
Allardyce defended Alexander-Arnold against criticism of his defensive ability, insisting that his defending is not significantly worse than that of many other full-backs. He also highlighted the England international’s exceptional passing ability as one of his biggest strengths.
With Alexander-Arnold recently recalled to the England squad by Thomas Tuchel, speculation over his future at Real Madrid is likely to continue if his playing time remains limited.
