Arsenal are reportedly closing in on the signing of Bruno Guimarães from Newcastle United, with the deal also expected to trigger another midfield departure from the Emirates.
According to reports, Arsenal and Newcastle are nearing a full agreement for the Brazilian international after Guimarães informed the Magpies that he wants to leave. The 28-year-old is expected to complete a medical once he is granted permission to leave Newcastle’s pre-season camp.
Meanwhile, Arsenal are also said to be in advanced negotiations to sell highly rated youngster Ethan Nwaneri. The 19-year-old, who spent last season on loan at Marseille, has attracted interest from RB Leipzig and AC Milan.
The Gunners are believed to value Nwaneri at around £30-35 million and want to include a £50 million buy-back clause in any transfer to retain future control over the midfielder.
Speaking recently, Mikel Arteta admitted Nwaneri’s loan spell at Marseille did not go as planned but insisted the experience helped the teenager mature both on and off the pitch.
Arsenal have already strengthened their squad this summer with the arrivals of Illan Meslier, Christos Tzolis and Piero Hincapié, while Arteta has confirmed that more transfer activity is expected before the window closes.
The Premier League champions will begin their title defence at home against Coventry on August 21.
