Tottenham Given Harry Kane Transfer Conditions as Bayern Star’s Premier League Return Appeal Fades
Harry Kane could consider a return to the Premier League if a genuine title contender makes an approach, according to former Tottenham manager Tim Sherwood.
The England captain joined Bayern Munich from Tottenham in July 2023 for £86.4 million (€100 million) and has now entered the final year of his current contract, leaving questions surrounding his long-term future in Germany.
Kane recently revealed that his desire to return to the Premier League is no longer as strong as it once was. Speaking after winning his second European Golden Shoe, the striker explained that he is currently focused on winning more trophies with Bayern under Vincent Kompany.
The 33-year-old admitted that he originally expected to return to England after leaving Spurs, but said that the “itch” has gradually disappeared. Kane added that he is enjoying life in Munich and has gained a different perspective on football since moving abroad, although he has not completely ruled out a future return.
Despite having yet to agree to a contract extension, Sherwood believes Kane could still be tempted back to England under the right circumstances.
The former Tottenham boss believes Kane has several years of top-level football remaining and praised the striker’s fitness, intelligence and technical ability. Sherwood also highlighted Kane’s ability to understand when to conserve energy and when to make his movements, rather than relying solely on physical intensity.
Sherwood believes numerous clubs would be interested if Kane became available, but questioned why the striker would leave Bayern while competing for major honours.
According to him, only a Premier League club with a realistic chance of challenging for trophies could persuade Kane to return. He also suggested that Barcelona could be an attractive alternative, particularly given their current strength.
For Tottenham to have any realistic chance of bringing their former striker back to North London, Sherwood believes they would first need to establish themselves as serious Premier League title contenders.
However, with Tottenham currently sitting bottom of the table after five matches, a potential Kane return appears to be some distance away.
