Tottenham Fans Turn on ‘Awful’ New Signing After 3-2 Defeat to Aston Villa

Tottenham Fans Turn on £85m New Signing After Aston Villa Defeat

Tottenham supporters have heavily criticised new signing Mateus Fernandes following Spurs’ disappointing 3-2 Premier League defeat to Aston Villa on Saturday.

The result added to Tottenham’s difficult start to the season, with Roberto De Zerbi’s side once again dropping points at home despite creating several promising opportunities.

Fernandes, who joined Spurs for a reported £85 million, was substituted at half-time after a frustrating first-half display. His performance quickly became a major talking point among supporters, with some questioning his impact and suitability for the role he was asked to play.

One fan described Fernandes as extremely disappointing, pointing to his lengthy spells on the ball and poor touches. Another supporter went even further, claiming the midfielder “does not know how to play football.”

A number of fans also questioned De Zerbi’s decision to use Fernandes in the No. 10 position, arguing that Tottenham looked more creative after James Maddison and Mohammed Kudus were introduced.

Despite the defeat, Spurs did show some positive signs. They controlled periods of the game and created enough chances to potentially have been ahead by two or three goals at half-time had they been more clinical.

Tottenham eventually found the net through Conor Gallagher, while Jan Paul van Hecke added a late second, but both goals came too late to change the outcome.

There was also controversy surrounding Villa’s opening goal, with Tottenham supporters unhappy with the Premier League rule that required Micky van de Ven to temporarily leave the pitch after suffering a head injury that caused bleeding.

Questions remain over Tottenham’s performances, but with a largely rebuilt squad still adapting, there are signs that De Zerbi’s team could improve as the season progresses.
