Liverpool Fans Demand Iraola Drop ‘Terrible’ Star After Tottenham Clash

Liverpool Fans Urge Andoni Iraola to Drop ‘Terrible’ Star After Tottenham Win

Liverpool booked their place in the fourth round of the EFL Cup after beating Tottenham Hotspur 3-1 at Anfield, extending their unbeaten run at the start of the campaign.

Alexis Mac Allister opened the scoring with an impressive effort from outside the box before Cody Gakpo doubled Liverpool’s advantage after the break with a powerful finish into the far corner.

Tottenham responded through Conor Gallagher, who headed home from a corner, but Dominik Szoboszlai sealed Liverpool’s victory in stoppage time with a spectacular volley from around 35 yards.

With Andoni Iraola still experimenting with his strongest XI and dealing with a relatively thin squad, the Liverpool boss made several changes for the cup tie. Trey Nyoni, James McConnell and Lewis Koumas were handed rare starts, while Giorgi Mamardashvili and Joe Gomez also made their first starts of the season.

One player who particularly impressed the Liverpool supporters was Nyoni. The young midfielder produced an encouraging display during his 62 minutes on the pitch before being replaced by Ryan Gravenberch.

However, Gravenberch failed to make the same impact during his half-hour appearance, leading some supporters to question whether he should remain in the starting lineup.

Liverpool Fans Want Nyoni Given His Chance

Several Liverpool supporters took to social media following the Tottenham victory to express their frustration with Gravenberch’s performance.

One fan described the midfielder as having been “terrible” throughout the season, while another argued that Nyoni currently looks like a better fit for Iraola’s system.

Another supporter even called for Gravenberch to be sold, suggesting that Nyoni should replace him in the starting XI after claiming Liverpool looked too open following the Dutchman’s introduction.

Others insisted that Gravenberch should be dropped for the upcoming fixtures, arguing that Nyoni had done enough against Tottenham to earn another opportunity.

Liverpool now turn their attention to Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium, with Iraola preparing to face his former club.

The Reds remain unbeaten in the Premier League, having drawn with Newcastle and Nottingham Forest before picking up victories against Ipswich and Atletico Madrid in the Champions League.

Their most recent league outing ended in a goalless draw against Fulham, a result Iraola admitted represented a setback.

With Nyoni impressing, Gravenberch struggling to convince and both Szoboszlai and Mac Allister finding the net against Spurs, Iraola now faces an important decision over how he sets up his midfield against Bournemouth.
