Tottenham Under Growing Pressure After Liverpool Defeat
Tottenham Hotspur are facing increasing scrutiny following their 3–1 Carabao Cup defeat to Liverpool, with attention now extending beyond manager Roberto De Zerbi to the club’s senior football leadership.
The loss leaves Spurs without a win in their last four matches. They are also still searching for their first Premier League victory and their first league goal of the campaign.
Former Tottenham scout Bryan King believes De Zerbi should not take all the blame for the club’s difficult start. Speaking to Football Insider after the Liverpool defeat, King pointed towards decisions made by the club’s hierarchy, including CEO Vinai Venkatesham and sporting director Johan Lange.
Tottenham spent heavily during the summer transfer window, signing 10 players for more than £400 million. Despite that significant investment, results and attacking output have remained disappointing, while a challenging run of upcoming fixtures could increase the pressure further.
There has also been speculation surrounding De Zerbi’s position following Spurs’ poor opening to the season. However, there is currently no verified evidence that Tottenham have officially dismissed De Zerbi, Venkatesham or Lange.
Likewise, claims that an official club statement announcing their departures was leaked have not been independently verified. The website containing the original claim could not be accessed successfully, so those reports should be treated with caution.
For now, the clearest picture is that Tottenham are under growing pressure following their defeat to Liverpool, with both De Zerbi and members of the club’s football hierarchy facing increased scrutiny.
