Tottenham Fans Slam ‘Awful’ New Signing After 3-2 Aston Villa Defeat

Tottenham Fans Blast £85m Signing After Aston Villa Defeat

Tottenham supporters have turned their frustration toward new signing Mateus Fernandes following Spurs’ 3–2 home defeat to Aston Villa, with some fans heavily criticising his performance.

The defeat added to a difficult start for Roberto De Zerbi’s Tottenham side, who remain near the bottom of the Premier League table. Spurs finally scored their first league goals of the season through Conor Gallagher and Jan Paul van Hecke, but their late comeback was not enough to prevent another home loss.

Fernandes, who reportedly arrived for around £85 million, was substituted at half-time after struggling to make an impact. Some supporters described his display as extremely disappointing, while others questioned his decision-making, ball control and suitability for the No. 10 role.

One fan suggested Tottenham looked more dangerous after James Maddison and Mohammed Kudus were introduced, arguing that De Zerbi should reconsider using Fernandes in the attacking midfield position.

Despite the criticism, there were some encouraging moments for Spurs. Tottenham created several chances during the match and could have been ahead at half-time if they had been more clinical in front of goal.

Their first goal conceded also came during a controversial moment involving Micky van de Ven, who was temporarily forced off the pitch after suffering bleeding following an aerial challenge.

With a number of new players still adapting to the team, Tottenham’s squad is yet to fully settle. De Zerbi will now be under pressure to find a solution quickly as Spurs look to turn their difficult start around.
