Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly considering a surprise move for Real Madrid centre-back Antonio Rüdiger ahead of next summer’s transfer window.
The German international could become available on a free transfer if Real Madrid decide not to extend his contract beyond June 2027, giving Spurs a potential opportunity to strengthen their defence without paying a transfer fee.
Reports suggest Tottenham are closely monitoring the 33-year-old’s situation as they explore options to improve their backline. However, his contract reportedly includes an option for an additional year, leaving his future at the Santiago Bernabéu uncertain.
Tottenham may also face competition from clubs in the Saudi Pro League, who are reportedly interested in signing the experienced defender.
For now, Rüdiger remains focused on his responsibilities at Real Madrid and is not rushing to make a decision about his future. Discussions over a possible contract extension are expected to become clearer in the spring.
His experience, physical presence and previous Premier League experience could make him an attractive option for Tottenham as they look to strengthen their defence.
However, no agreement has been confirmed, and the proposed transfer remains speculative. Much will depend on Real Madrid’s decision over his contract and whether Spurs can persuade the defender to return to English football.
