Lamine Camara Finally Speaks Out After Chelsea Collapse as Liverpool Discover His January Price

Lamine Camara Opens Up on Chelsea Collapse as Liverpool Interest Grows

Monaco midfielder Lamine Camara has admitted that his ambition of playing in the Premier League remains firmly alive, despite his dramatic deadline-day move to Chelsea falling through.

The 22-year-old Senegal international had reportedly held lengthy discussions with Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso over a potential switch to Stamford Bridge. After Chelsea agreed to sell Enzo Fernandez for a huge £125 million on deadline day, the Blues reached an agreement with Monaco to sign Camara as his replacement.

However, with only hours left before the transfer window closed, Monaco unexpectedly abandoned the deal. Reports suggested the French club had concerns over their own squad situation, while there were also claims that Camara could eventually be destined for Liverpool.

The collapse reportedly left Camara furious, with transfer journalist Ben Jacobs providing insight into how the situation unfolded.

Jacobs revealed that Chelsea had previously made bids of €45m and €50m for Camara, but Monaco rejected both offers because they believed they were in a strong position to retain the midfielder.

According to Jacobs, the situation changed dramatically after Chelsea sold Fernandez and uncertainty emerged over Monaco forward Folarin Balogun’s future. Monaco eventually asked Chelsea for €55m to complete the Camara transfer, despite reportedly demanding as much as €70m just days earlier.

Chelsea believed the agreement had been completed and were preparing to announce Camara on a six-year contract with an additional one-year option. However, Monaco ultimately decided against completing the transfer.

The decision reportedly angered Chelsea, who considered Monaco’s handling of the situation highly unprofessional.

Camara reveals how he felt after Chelsea move collapsed

Speaking at a press conference, Camara addressed the failed Chelsea transfer and made it clear that his desire to play in England has not disappeared.

“It was a somewhat turbulent and difficult time,” Camara admitted.

The midfielder explained that he tried to put the disappointment behind him quickly and concentrate on Monaco’s upcoming matches rather than allowing the failed transfer to distract him.

When asked whether he actually wanted to join Chelsea, Camara was careful with his response.

He explained that confirming how much he wanted the move could suggest that his focus was no longer completely on Monaco.

Camara acknowledged that a departure had been possible but insisted that transfers can collapse unexpectedly, something that happens regularly in football.

The Senegalese star was also asked whether another opportunity to move to the Premier League could come his way in the future.

His response was confident.

“If it doesn’t come back around, it will be because I gave up or didn’t work hard enough,” Camara said.

He added that as long as he continues working hard and performing at a high level, more opportunities could eventually present themselves.

For now, however, Camara insists his attention is firmly on Monaco and the current season.

The failed Chelsea transfer has therefore not ended his Premier League dream — and with Liverpool reportedly monitoring his situation, another major move could potentially be on the horizon.
