John Terry’s Explosive Take on Gabriel and Emi Martinez Incident Sparks Major Debate

John Terry’s Gabriel Comments Spark Debate After Arsenal-Chelsea Clash

John Terry has sparked plenty of debate with his comments about the controversial incident involving Arsenal defender Gabriel and Chelsea goalkeeper Emi Martinez during Sunday’s Premier League meeting.

Gabriel escaped punishment after his boot made contact with Martinez’s head during an early scramble inside the box at the Emirates Stadium. The contact was ultimately considered accidental, meaning VAR did not recommend a further review.

The decision divided opinion. Former England and Manchester United forward Wayne Rooney felt Gabriel was extremely fortunate not to receive a straight red card, while former PGMOL chief Keith Hackett defended the decision, arguing that there was no malicious intent.

Terry Says Chelsea Missed a Chance

Former Chelsea captain John Terry has now offered his view, claiming Chelsea’s players should have reacted more strongly in the moment and put pressure on the referee.

Terry argued that players closest to the incident should immediately have alerted the referee to the seriousness of the contact and called for Gabriel to be sent off.

He also suggested that Chelsea could have done more from the technical area, particularly by putting pressure on the fourth official after seeing the incident again.

According to Terry, Arsenal are particularly effective at using what is often described as the “dark arts” of football, and he believes Chelsea need to become better at managing similar situations if they want to compete for the Premier League title.

Terry added that, in his opinion, the incident would have resulted in a red card had the referee been sent to the pitch-side monitor for a review.

His comments have divided supporters, with some Arsenal fans criticising him for encouraging Chelsea players to push for a fellow professional’s dismissal, while some Chelsea supporters believe Terry simply highlighted an area where their team needs to improve.

Arsenal ultimately won the match 2-1, with Martin Ødegaard scoring the second-half winner to preserve the champions’ perfect start to the new Premier League campaign.
