Journalist Delivers Fresh Update on Federico Chiesa’s Liverpool Future

Federico Chiesa’s future at Liverpool is once again becoming a major talking point, with reports from Italy suggesting the winger could be on course for a Serie A return as early as January.

The 28-year-old has struggled to establish himself as a regular starter since arriving at Anfield from Juventus in 2024, while a series of injury problems have made it difficult for him to build consistent momentum.

His situation has now become even more uncertain after he was left out of Liverpool’s Champions League squad.

Chiesa Could Be Offered to Italian Clubs

Italian journalist Emanuele Cammaroto has claimed that Chiesa could be heading back to Italy during the January transfer window.

Speaking on Radio Punto Zero, Cammaroto suggested that Liverpool could make the winger available to Italian clubs, with Napoli potentially among the teams interested.

Napoli could therefore keep a close eye on Chiesa if he decides that regular first-team opportunities are unlikely to come his way at Liverpool.

The competition for attacking positions has intensified following Liverpool’s summer squad changes.

The arrivals of Bradley Barcola and Victor Muñoz have increased the number of options available in the wide areas, while Cody Gakpo also remained at Anfield after his proposed transfer to Manchester City failed to materialise.

Another indication of Chiesa’s current standing came when he was excluded from Liverpool’s Champions League squad. Sky Sport Italia reported that both Chiesa and Wataru Endo were omitted from the club’s European league-phase squad.

Could a January Exit Benefit Everyone?

A move away from Liverpool in January could increasingly make sense for all parties involved.

Chiesa still possesses plenty of technical ability, experience and the quality to influence matches, but regular playing time is becoming increasingly important at this stage of his career.

Liverpool, however, cannot guarantee him that opportunity.

With several younger attacking options now ahead of him, his Champions League omission appears to indicate that he has fallen down the pecking order.

A return to Serie A could provide Chiesa with the consistent football he needs, while Liverpool could also benefit by reducing their wage commitments and creating space within the squad.

Napoli, meanwhile, could potentially acquire an experienced Serie A-proven attacker without having to spend the huge transfer fee normally required for a younger player of similar quality.

Chiesa’s father recently stated that his son remains happy at Liverpool, meaning a departure is far from certain.

However, being happy at a club and receiving enough playing time are two very different things, and the January window could ultimately provide a solution to Chiesa’s uncertain situation.
