Tottenham, Newcastle and Aston Villa Eye Barcelona Defender Eric Garcia
Tottenham Hotspur, Newcastle United and Aston Villa are reportedly monitoring Barcelona defender Eric Garcia as they consider a potential move for the centre-back.
The 25-year-old has previous Premier League experience from his time at Manchester City, and a return to English football could be on the cards if one of his admirers decides to make a serious approach.
According to Sportowy, all three Premier League clubs are keeping a close eye on Garcia and could explore the possibility of signing him in the coming months.
Garcia attracting Premier League interest
Garcia remains under contract with Barcelona until 2031, meaning the Catalan giants are in no rush to sell. Any club attempting to sign him in January could therefore face a difficult negotiation.
Barcelona are believed to value the defender at around €50–55 million, a figure that could prove too expensive for some of his potential suitors.
Tottenham have already strengthened their defensive options significantly this summer, so spending a substantial fee on another centre-back may not be their priority. Spurs could instead focus their resources on improving their attacking options.
Newcastle, meanwhile, could benefit from adding another defender to their squad, although Garcia’s asking price could make any deal complicated. Another factor could be whether the Spanish international would be willing to join a side without European football.
Aston Villa may also see Garcia as an attractive option. Unai Emery’s side are building an ambitious project and could view the Barcelona defender as a useful addition to their defensive ranks.
Garcia also reportedly has interest from clubs in Italy. Having already experienced top-level football in both Spain and England, the defender could eventually decide that a fresh challenge elsewhere is the best option.
For now, his future remains uncertain, with Tottenham, Newcastle and Aston Villa all seemingly keeping tabs on his situation.
