Jamie Carragher Sparks Debate with Harsh Verdict on Thomas Tuchel’s England Despite Panama Victory
England may have secured a comfortable 2-0 victory over Panama and finished top of Group L at the 2026 World Cup, but the performance has triggered widespread debate after former Liverpool defender and pundit Jamie Carragher delivered a scathing assessment of Thomas Tuchel’s tactics.
While the result guaranteed England’s place in the Round of 32, many supporters were left unconvinced by another cautious display. Following a dull goalless draw against Ghana, expectations were high for a more dynamic performance, yet England once again struggled to impress despite controlling possession.
The Three Lions relied on moments of individual brilliance rather than fluid attacking football. Jude Bellingham opened the scoring with a superb solo effort before Harry Kane added a second after a scramble in the penalty area. Beyond those moments, England found it difficult to break down Panama’s organised defensive structure.
