Reports from Italy suggest Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker came surprisingly close to leaving Anfield this summer, with the Brazilian reportedly even picking his preferred shirt number at Juventus.
The 33-year-old was strongly linked with a move to Turin, with Juventus said to have made him their top goalkeeping target. According to Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, the Serie A giants had already reached an agreement with Alisson over a potential transfer.
The goalkeeper had reportedly gone as far as choosing his shirt number before Liverpool intervened and made it clear they had no intention of letting their first-choice stopper leave.
Juventus eventually shifted their attention elsewhere, pursuing Emiliano Martinez before agreeing a deal with Tottenham for Guglielmo Vicario.
For Liverpool, retaining Alisson could prove hugely important. He remains one of the club’s most influential players and a trusted presence in goal.
However, his future could become a major issue again next summer, with his current contract due to expire in June. Juventus could potentially return for him if he becomes available on a free transfer.
For now, Liverpool fans can breathe a major sigh of relief after Alisson’s proposed move to Juventus failed to materialise.
