Romano delivers major Barcola update as Liverpool face huge transfer hurdle
Liverpool have reportedly moved a step closer to signing Paris Saint-Germain winger Bradley Barcola after the Frenchman gave the Reds the green light on personal terms.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Barcola has approved the terms of a potential move to Anfield, removing a major obstacle in Liverpool’s pursuit of the 23-year-old.
The focus now shifts to negotiations with PSG, who are demanding a huge fee for their attacking star. Reports suggest the French champions value Barcola at around £145 million, leaving Liverpool with a significant financial gap to bridge.
Barcola has become Liverpool’s top target as new manager Andoni Iraola looks to rebuild the club’s attacking options following Mohamed Salah’s departure. His pace, direct style and versatility across the frontline make him an appealing fit for Iraola’s high-intensity system.
Liverpool and PSG are now holding direct talks, but the French club are under no real pressure to sell. Barcola still has two years remaining on his contract, and PSG would reportedly prefer to keep him.
Liverpool may therefore need to decide whether Barcola is worth making one of the biggest financial commitments in the club’s history.
The Reds should continue pushing for an agreement, especially with Arsenal also believed to be interested, but matching PSG’s full £145 million valuation could be a major gamble.
A deal involving a lower guaranteed fee with performance-related bonuses could prove more sensible.
Barcola has seemingly made his position clear. The next move now belongs to Liverpool and PSG.
