Liverpool’s Premier League clash against Brighton at Anfield on Sunday could face uncertainty following a weather warning issued by the UK Met Office over the potential impact of Storm Boelo.
The UK has already experienced severe weather in recent days, with Storm Austen reportedly leaving more than 12,000 homes without electricity. Now, further heavy rain and powerful winds are expected to affect parts of the country, including Merseyside.
🌪️ MET OFFICE ISSUES WARNING AHEAD OF LIVERPOOL MATCH
The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for Liverpool, which remains in place until 9pm on Sunday.
According to the warning, Storm Boelo could bring strong winds and heavy rainfall, potentially disrupting road travel and public transport. Fallen debris could cause road closures, while power cuts are also a possibility.
Wind gusts of around 55–65 mph are expected, with exposed and coastal areas potentially experiencing speeds of 70–80 mph or even higher.
⚠️ WILL LIVERPOOL’S MATCH GO AHEAD?
Although supporters will be hoping the game proceeds as scheduled, public safety will be the main priority when authorities assess the situation.
If conditions become dangerous, postponing the match could be necessary. However, an early decision would be important, particularly for Brighton supporters travelling a long distance to Anfield.
Liverpool fans will remember the Merseyside derby at Goodison Park in 2024, which was postponed shortly before kick-off because of Storm Darragh.
Another postponement could also create scheduling problems for Liverpool later in the season, especially if they progress deep into multiple cup competitions.
For now, supporters will be hoping Storm Boelo does not disrupt Sunday’s encounter, but the final decision will depend on the weather conditions and the authorities’ safety assessment.
