Liverpool Make Final Call on Trent Alexander-Arnold Return as Real Madrid Set Conditions for His Exit

Liverpool have reportedly made a decision regarding the possibility of bringing Trent Alexander-Arnold back to Anfield from Real Madrid.

Alexander-Arnold came through Liverpool’s academy before establishing himself as one of Europe’s top right-backs.
Although the England international has faced criticism over his defensive performances, he played a significant role in Liverpool’s successful period under former manager Jurgen Klopp.

However, the 28-year-old chose to leave his boyhood club in 2025 before his contract expired. Real Madrid reportedly paid around £10 million to secure his services early, allowing him to feature in the Club World Cup.

Things have not gone according to plan for Alexander-Arnold in Spain, as he has struggled to establish himself as a regular starter for the Spanish giants.

Last season, Federico Valverde was frequently preferred at right-back, while Jose Mourinho brought in Denzel Dumfries during the summer to strengthen the position further.
Alexander-Arnold has continued to struggle for consistent playing time this season, managing just four starts across all competitions.

His difficult situation has sparked speculation about a possible return to Liverpool, particularly given the problems the Reds have experienced at right-back since his departure.

Earlier this week, reports suggested that Real Madrid were prepared to let the defender leave in the coming months, with the club reportedly setting an asking price of £50 million.

However, a fresh report from journalist Pete O’Rourke of Football Insider suggests that a reunion with Liverpool is not currently on the cards.

O’Rourke believes there is little concrete evidence to support speculation about Alexander-Arnold returning to Anfield.

He explained that the defender’s previous success at Liverpool would naturally continue to generate links between the two parties. However, his struggles to secure a regular place in Mourinho’s starting XI have added to the uncertainty surrounding his future.

Meanwhile, former Manchester City defender Kyle Walker believes Alexander-Arnold could consider another Premier League club if he decides to leave Real Madrid.

Speaking to talkSPORT, Walker questioned whether a return to Liverpool would be possible, given the reaction from supporters to the defender’s departure in 2025.

He suggested that Manchester United or Manchester City could be potential destinations if Alexander-Arnold wanted to return to English football.

For now, Liverpool appear unlikely to pursue a deal, despite the ongoing speculation surrounding the England international’s future at Real Madrid.
