Arsenal have reportedly shifted their attention to a new striker after missing out on Vinicius Junior, who recently committed his future to Real Madrid by signing a new six-year contract. The Gunners are now said to be competing with Manchester United for Inter Milan forward Pio Esposito.
Vinicius had been linked with a move to the Emirates, but his long-term extension at Real Madrid ended any hopes of Arsenal securing the Brazilian. As a result, Mikel Arteta and sporting director Andrea Berta have turned to alternative attacking targets.
According to reports, Arsenal have sent scouts to monitor 21-year-old Esposito during pre-season in Australia. The young Italian striker has also attracted strong interest from Manchester United, with both clubs impressed by his performances and potential.
Esposito is believed to fit Arsenal’s preferred profile thanks to his 6ft 3in frame, high work rate, and ability to lead the line. The North London club have reportedly been following his development for several months as they look to strengthen their attacking options alongside Viktor Gyokeres and Kai Havertz.
Manchester United are also keeping tabs on the Inter forward, although any formal move could depend on the future of Joshua Zirkzee.
Inter Milan reportedly regard Esposito as a key player, but reports claim they could consider offers in the region of £73 million. The striker is not expected to push for a transfer, though he is believed to be interested in playing in the Premier League at some stage.
Despite the growing interest from England, Esposito is expected to sign a new contract with Inter this summer, a move that could further increase his market value.
Speaking earlier this month, the Italy international said he is happy at Inter and remains relaxed about his contract situation. He praised his first season with the club after stepping up from Serie B and insisted his focus is on continuing to improve rather than thinking about a transfer.
