Report: Liverpool Could Bring Tyler Morton Back to Anfield Just Over a Year After His Lyon Transfer

Report: Liverpool Consider Shock Move to Re-Sign Tyler Morton

Liverpool are reportedly considering a move to bring former academy midfielder Tyler Morton back to Anfield, just over a year after selling him to Lyon.

The 23-year-old left Liverpool for around £15 million in the summer of 2025 and has since impressed in France, attracting attention from several Premier League clubs.

Liverpool Monitoring Morton

According to TEAMtalk, Morton’s performances for Lyon have caught the eye of a number of English top-flight teams ahead of the January transfer window.

Liverpool are reportedly among seven Premier League clubs keeping tabs on the midfielder. Newcastle United, Sunderland and Everton have joined Nottingham Forest, Crystal Palace and Brighton in monitoring his situation.

Morton left Liverpool during Arne Slot’s time in charge, but a return could now become possible under current boss Andoni Iraola, who has shown a willingness to give young players opportunities.

Liverpool have already seen the benefits of that approach, with young talents such as Lewis Koumas receiving opportunities under Iraola.

Morton Could Address Liverpool’s Midfield Needs

A potential return to Anfield could give Liverpool additional depth in the defensive midfield role.

Morton has continued to develop his passing, defensive positioning and tactical understanding during his time in Ligue 1 and European competition. His previous experience at Liverpool could also make adapting to the club easier.

Liverpool could also have a financial advantage in any potential deal, having reportedly negotiated a 20% sell-on clause when Morton joined Lyon.

With several Premier League clubs monitoring the midfielder, Liverpool could face competition if they decide to make a formal approach in January.
