Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish has questioned Liverpool’s decision to make what he considered a surprisingly low offer for Ismaila Sarr during the summer transfer window.
Sarr had emerged as a possible replacement for Cody Gakpo, who was reportedly a target for Manchester City before Deadline Day. However, Parish insists Liverpool never made an offer serious enough to convince Palace to sell the Senegal international.
According to reports, Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes proposed a deal worth around £50m for Sarr. Parish, however, suggested that the figure was nowhere near Palace’s valuation and made it clear the club had no intention of accepting it.
Parish pointed to the huge fees being paid for other attacking players, questioning why Liverpool would expect Palace to sell Sarr for significantly less when they were spending much more elsewhere.
Liverpool ultimately decided not to return with an improved bid, bringing an end to their interest in the 28-year-old winger.
With Liverpool still lacking a natural option on the right side, Andoni Iraola has had to rotate several players in that position, including Bradley Barcola, Victor Munoz, Rio Ngumoha and Gakpo.
None has emerged as a natural solution so far, meaning new sporting director Julian Ward could make strengthening the position a priority when the January transfer window opens. A renewed move for Sarr, however, appears unlikely.
