Szoboszlai and Kerkez Caught in Heated Clash During Hungary Defeat
Liverpool teammates Dominik Szoboszlai and Milos Kerkez were involved in a heated confrontation with Ukraine players during Hungary’s 1-0 defeat.
Tensions boiled over late in the match after Ukraine were reduced to 10 men. What initially appeared to be a disagreement between Viktor Tsyhankov and Szoboszlai quickly escalated as more players became involved.
Tsyhankov moved towards Szoboszlai during the confrontation, prompting Kerkez to step in and prevent the two players from getting closer.
However, Kerkez’s intervention appeared to intensify the situation, with Ukraine defender Mykola Matviyenko joining the confrontation in support of his teammate.
Within moments, players from both sides gathered around the incident as tempers flared.
The referee eventually booked all four players involved. Szoboszlai, Kerkez, Tsyhankov and Matviyenko were each shown yellow cards in the 90+4th minute.
The incident capped a frustrating evening for Hungary, who controlled much of the game and managed 17 attempts but failed to find an equaliser.
Ukraine secured the victory thanks to Danylo Sikan’s 42nd-minute header, holding on to claim a 1-0 win.
