Arsenal reportedly approach Real Madrid over potential Rodrygo transfer after Vinicius Jr setback
Arsenal are said to have made contact with Real Madrid regarding a possible move for Brazilian forward Rodrygo next year.
The Gunners remain keen to strengthen their attacking options after failing to secure a summer deal for Vinicius Jr. Attention has now reportedly turned to his Real Madrid teammate, Rodrygo.
Despite the 25-year-old being sidelined since suffering a serious knee injury in March, Arsenal are reportedly monitoring his situation and could explore a transfer once he returns to full fitness.
Arsenal exploring Rodrygo deal
According to reports, Arsenal have already contacted Real Madrid to determine whether a deal for Rodrygo could be possible in 2027.
Mikel Arteta’s side are believed to be long-term admirers of the Brazilian, who was reportedly high on their summer transfer wishlist before his injury.
Arsenal held discussions with Real Madrid over Vinicius Jr during the summer and also made enquiries about another Brazilian attacker, Endrick.
With Leandro Trossard and Gabriel Martinelli leaving during the summer, Arsenal are still believed to be looking for another left-sided attacking option. Rodrygo’s ability to operate in multiple attacking positions reportedly makes him an attractive target.
Rodrygo focused on comeback
For now, Rodrygo’s priority is getting back to full fitness following around six months on the sidelines.
Reports suggest the forward is confident of returning to action by December and is hoping to beat Real Madrid’s initial recovery timeline.
If he returns before the end of 2026, Arsenal could potentially consider a January move, although a transfer next summer appears to be the more realistic possibility.
Rodrygo is contracted to Real Madrid until June 2028. Since joining the Spanish giants from Santos in 2019, he has recorded 71 goals and 57 assists.
