Tottenham Explore Move for Giorgio Scalvini as Roberto De Zerbi’s Squad Rebuild Continues
Tottenham have reportedly made initial contact with the representatives of Atalanta defender Giorgio Scalvini as Roberto De Zerbi continues reshaping his squad ahead of the new season.
The 22-year-old Italian centre-back is regarded as one of Europe’s brightest defensive talents after making over 130 appearances for Atalanta since breaking into the first team. Although the Serie A club are keen to keep him, reports suggest they would consider offers starting at around £42 million.
Spurs are said to have held early discussions to gauge Scalvini’s interest in a move to the Premier League, with no formal bid submitted yet. Should the player’s camp respond positively, Tottenham are expected to begin negotiations with Atalanta.
Despite already strengthening their defence with the arrivals of Jan Paul van Hecke and Marcos Senesi, De Zerbi is believed to want another centre-back as he plans to continue using a three-man defence. With Cristian Romero expected to depart, Scalvini has emerged as a strong candidate to reinforce the back line.
Tottenham have already invested more than £200 million this summer, signing Martin Dúbravka, Andy Robertson, Mateus Fernandes, and Sandro Tonali, among others. The club are also looking to strengthen their attack, with Marcus Rashford remaining one of the names linked with a move to North London.
