Liverpool Fans Concerned After Michael Oliver Gets Bournemouth Clash
Liverpool supporters may have reason to feel uneasy after Michael Oliver was appointed referee for the Reds’ upcoming Premier League trip to Bournemouth.
Oliver will take charge of the match at the Vitality Stadium, with Stuart Burt and James Mainwaring serving as his assistants. Simon Hooper has been named fourth official, while Craig Pawson will oversee VAR alongside Lee Betts.
The appointment could raise eyebrows among Liverpool fans given the club’s recent history with Oliver and some controversial decisions involving the Reds.
Liverpool have won just one of their last seven matches with Oliver as referee, with their only victory coming against Burnley last season.
The official has also been involved in several high-profile incidents affecting Liverpool, including the Merseyside derby in February 2025 and their defeat to Manchester City last season.
Oliver was also the referee for Sunday’s Manchester derby, where Erling Haaland’s controversial winning goal was allowed to stand after a VAR intervention.
Liverpool will now hope that the referee does not become the main talking point when they face Bournemouth next weekend.
