Spurs Face ‘Radio Silence’ in Bid to Sign Roberto De Zerbi’s Top Target Before Deadline

Tottenham Face ‘Radio Silence’ in Bid to Land Roberto De Zerbi’s Top Target Before Transfer Deadline

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly facing major difficulties in their attempts to complete a deal for one of Roberto De Zerbi’s preferred attacking targets before the transfer window closes.

Spurs have already spent heavily this summer as De Zerbi looks to reshape the squad and push the club towards Champions League qualification. The North London side have brought in several major additions and are also reportedly closing in on further attacking reinforcements.

However, Tottenham still want to add another forward, with Cody Gakpo emerging as a key target.

According to Voetbal International journalist Joost Blaauwhof, negotiations between Tottenham and Liverpool over Gakpo have currently gone completely quiet.

The report claims Spurs have made an offer worth around €69 million, but Liverpool may be waiting for a higher bid before considering his departure.

Blaauwhof reportedly stated that there is currently “radio silence” between the two clubs, with Gakpo’s potential move heavily dependent on Liverpool’s own transfer plans.

Liverpool are understood to be pursuing attacking options including Bradley Barcola and Ibrahim Mbaye, while Brighton winger Yankuba Minteh has also been linked with a move to Anfield.

That could ultimately determine whether Gakpo is allowed to leave.

Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola may be reluctant to lose the Dutch international unless the club can bring in suitable replacements. At present, Rio Ngumoha and Victor Munoz are among the alternatives available, but neither has significant top-level experience.

As a result, Tottenham’s hopes of signing Gakpo could come down entirely to whether Liverpool manage to strengthen their attack before the deadline.

If the Reds fail to land their preferred targets, Spurs may have little chance of convincing them to sell Gakpo this summer.
