BARCELONA OPEN DOOR FOR LIVERPOOL TO SIGN RONALD ARAUJO PERMANENTLY IN JANUARY

Barcelona have reportedly opened discussions with Liverpool over the possibility of selling Ronald Araujo permanently during the January transfer window.

According to TEAMtalk, the Spanish giants are considering cashing in on the defender, who joined Liverpool on loan towards the end of the summer transfer window.

Araujo has made a positive impression at Anfield, with Liverpool pleased with his performances and interested in keeping him beyond his loan spell. The original agreement included a €55 million option to make the transfer permanent, while the Uruguayan defender is also reportedly happy with life at Liverpool.

Initial discussions between the two clubs have already taken place. However, Liverpool are hoping to negotiate a lower transfer fee if they decide to complete the deal in January rather than wait until the original agreement expires.

The Reds reportedly value the 27-year-old at around £40 million to £45 million, a figure they would be comfortable paying.

Barcelona, meanwhile, are looking to generate funds to strengthen their squad, although they may be reluctant to accept a significant reduction in their asking price.

The Catalan club are also prioritising the signing of a left-footed centre-back, with Manchester United’s Lisandro Martinez previously linked with a potential move to Camp Nou.

With Liverpool keen to retain Araujo and Barcelona open to his departure, negotiations could become an important talking point ahead of the January transfer window.
