DONE DEAL! Tottenham Seal Verbal Agreement for Major Transfer That Could Shake Up the Premier League

DONE DEAL? Tottenham Reach Verbal Agreement With Micky van de Ven Over New Long-Term Contract

Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly reached a verbal agreement with Micky van de Ven over a new long-term contract, with the defender now edging closer to officially committing his future to the club.

Reports suggest the Dutch centre-back has agreed terms on a fresh five-year deal that would also include improved financial conditions. The final paperwork is reportedly still being completed before Tottenham can make the agreement official.

The development follows Pedro Porro’s recent contract renewal and highlights Tottenham’s desire to secure the futures of key players who remain central to Roberto De Zerbi’s plans.

Van de Ven Set for New Spurs Deal

Van de Ven arrived at Tottenham from Wolfsburg in 2023 and has since developed into one of the club’s most important defenders.

His blistering pace, ability to recover quickly, composure in possession and confidence when carrying the ball out from defence have made him a crucial part of the Spurs back line.

However, his time in north London has also been disrupted by injuries and difficult periods.

The 2025/26 campaign proved particularly demanding for Tottenham, with inconsistent results, injuries, suspensions and changes behind the scenes making it a difficult season for the club.

Van de Ven also suffered his own fitness setbacks, including recurring hamstring problems, before later serving a suspension following a red card.

Defender Put Difficult Season Behind Him

The Dutchman has previously opened up about the mental pressure that came with Tottenham’s struggles.

At one point, he reportedly took a break from social media to help maintain his focus, while also defending his teammates when criticism of the squad intensified.

Despite the speculation surrounding his future, Tottenham have continued to view Van de Ven as an important part of their long-term project.

With Cristian Romero now on his way out, securing Van de Ven’s future could be even more significant.

Van de Ven Could Become Defensive Leader

The new contract could give the 25-year-old an even bigger role at the heart of Tottenham’s defence.

His combination of exceptional speed, defensive awareness and technical quality makes him one of Spurs’ most valuable assets.

If Tottenham are determined to challenge for major honours again under De Zerbi, keeping Van de Ven fit and building the defence around him could prove vital.

With Romero departing, Van de Ven could now be ready to take centre stage as the leader of Tottenham’s new-look defence.
