Tottenham Hotspur have kickstarted their summer business by completing the signing of Jan Paul van Hecke from Brighton & Hove Albion in a deal reportedly worth £52 million.
The Dutch centre-back arrives after being a long-term target for Spurs and joins Marcos Senesi and Andy Robertson, who both arrived on free transfers, as part of Roberto De Zerbi’s ongoing squad overhaul.
Van Hecke Delighted With Move
After finalising his transfer and passing his medical, Van Hecke expressed his excitement about joining the North London club.
“It’s a privilege to sign for Tottenham. Joining a club of this stature is something I’ve always dreamed of,” he said.
“I already know the manager well and I’m excited to work under him again. Micky has also told me great things about the club, which only increased my desire to come here.
“I’ve experienced the atmosphere at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as an opponent, but stepping out there as a Spurs player in front of the supporters will be an incredible feeling.”
A Key Addition To The Backline
Van Hecke brings valuable Premier League experience, having made over 100 appearances in the competition while contributing four goals and four assists since breaking into the top flight in 2022.
He is also familiar with De Zerbi’s style of play, having played a major role in Brighton’s impressive defensive performances under the Italian. Brighton conceded only 46 league goals last season — one of the best defensive records in the division.
With Tottenham conceding significantly more during the same period, Van Hecke’s arrival highlights the club’s determination to strengthen their defence and improve quickly ahead of the new campaign.
