Darwin Núñez is being linked with a surprising return to Liverpool just a year after his £45 million move to Saudi club Al Hilal.
The Uruguayan forward had a mixed spell at Anfield, showing strong work rate but inconsistent finishing. Although he did not fully settle into Arne Slot’s tactical setup, his form in Saudi Arabia reportedly helped him regain an important role with Uruguay under Marcelo Bielsa.
New reports suggest Núñez could rejoin Liverpool after the 2026 World Cup, with incoming manager Andoni Iraola planning a squad rebuild this summer. A return for the striker is being considered as a practical and affordable option.
Now a free agent after leaving Al Hilal, Núñez has also expressed that he still has a strong emotional connection to Liverpool, which has intensified talk of a possible comeback.
