Arsenal are reportedly leading the race to sign Argentine striker Julian Alvarez from , with reports suggesting a blockbuster swap deal has already been agreed.

The former forward has impressed since joining Atletico in a club-record move, scoring 49 goals in 106 appearances. Despite his success in Spain, Alvarez is expected to seek a new challenge this summer, attracting interest from several European giants.

Both , and have shown interest, with Real Madrid reportedly seeing a huge bid rejected and Barcelona also making a substantial offer.

However, fresh reports claim Arsenal have moved ahead of their rivals. Journalist stated that Atletico officials informed Barcelona that Alvarez is not available for sale and suggested the striker’s move to Arsenal is virtually complete.

According to the report, the proposed deal would see Arsenal pay €50 million along with Swedish striker . Gyokeres enjoyed a productive debut season with the Gunners, scoring 21 goals as the club ended its long wait for a Premier League title.

The combined value of the package is believed to be around £130 million.

Despite Arsenal’s reported breakthrough, Barcelona have not abandoned hope. Reports in Spain claim the Catalan club are preparing one final attempt to sign Alvarez after the World Cup, potentially offering up to €150 million including bonuses.

Alvarez remains under contract with Atletico until 2030 and has a €500 million release clause. Nevertheless, some members of the club’s hierarchy are reportedly open to negotiations should a suitable offer arrive.

The Argentine forward is currently representing at the World Cup, where he featured as a substitute in their opening victory over Algeria.
