Bentancur and Son Share Emotional Reunion in Seoul
Former Tottenham teammates Rodrigo Bentancur and Heung-min Son shared a touching reunion in Seoul on Monday as Uruguay secured a convincing 4–1 victory over South Korea in an international friendly.
Bentancur captained Uruguay and completed the entire match, while Son led South Korea as captain. The former Spurs stars warmly embraced before and after the encounter, creating a memorable moment for Tottenham supporters.
Speaking ahead of the game, Bentancur admitted that he was looking forward to facing Son again. The Uruguayan midfielder praised his former teammate’s ability and joked that he would do everything possible to stop him from finding the net.
Uruguay dominated the first half, taking a commanding 3–0 lead before the break. Darwin Núñez opened the scoring before Giorgian de Arrascaeta doubled the advantage, with Kim Min-jae later putting the ball into his own net.
Núñez struck again shortly after the restart to put Uruguay 4–0 ahead.
Son eventually gave the home crowd something to celebrate when he scored in the 80th minute, converting from Lee Kang-in’s cross to reduce the deficit to 4–1.
The goal was also an important milestone for Son, taking his international tally to 58 goals and bringing him level with Cha Bum-kun as South Korea’s joint-highest-scoring men’s player.
Although South Korea suffered a heavy defeat, Son’s goal provided another memorable moment in his international career.
The match was also significant for Bentancur, who received a warm reception from Tottenham supporters in South Korea. The midfielder has previously visited the country with both Uruguay and Tottenham and has expressed his appreciation for the continued support he receives from Spurs fans.
While Uruguay comfortably claimed the victory, the reunion between Bentancur and Son was one of the biggest talking points for Tottenham supporters.
Fans will now hope Son can continue his goalscoring form in the next international fixture and move ahead of Cha Bum-kun to become South Korea’s outright leading men’s goalscorer.
