Liverpool Make Contact Over £100m-Rated Chelsea Star Estevao Willian
Liverpool have reportedly taken their interest in Chelsea winger Estevao Willian a step further, with the Reds said to have made contact with the Brazilian youngster’s representatives.
The 19-year-old enjoyed an impressive first season in England, but his playing time has reportedly become limited this campaign following tactical changes under Chelsea boss Xabi Alonso.
According to reports, Liverpool have approached Estevao’s camp as they explore the possibility of bringing the highly-rated attacker to Anfield. The club have also reportedly sent scouts to monitor the Brazil international.
Chelsea, however, have no intention of letting Estevao leave. The winger is already under contract until 2033, giving the Blues little financial reason to sell, while the club are reportedly preparing improved terms to reward his development and reinforce his importance to their long-term plans.
Estevao scored eight goals and provided four assists in 36 appearances during his first Chelsea campaign. However, reports claim he has started just once across the club’s opening five competitive matches this season.
Chelsea’s stance is reflected in their reported valuation, with figures of around €110m–€120m (£95m–£104m) being mentioned.
For Liverpool, the attraction is clear. Estevao is a naturally left-footed attacker who can operate from the right wing and possesses the ability to take on defenders one-on-one.
The Reds’ decision to contact his representatives could therefore be an attempt to keep the door open for a future move. A transfer would still be extremely difficult, given Chelsea’s long-term plans for the youngster and his lengthy contract.
Liverpool may ultimately have to wait and see whether Estevao’s limited minutes become a source of frustration before any realistic opportunity to bring him to Anfield emerges.
