Liverpool Midfielder James Balagizi Confirms Emotional Anfield Departure
James Balagizi has officially announced his departure from Liverpool, ending an 11-year journey with the club.
The 22-year-old joined Liverpool’s academy at just 11 and progressed through the youth ranks, but despite showing promise, he was unable to secure a place in the first-team squad.
His exit had been expected after Liverpool confirmed earlier in the summer that he was among the academy players leaving following the expiration of his contract.
Balagizi took to Instagram to officially say goodbye, sharing an emotional message thanking the club, his teammates, coaches and everyone who supported him throughout his time at Anfield.
During his Liverpool career, the midfielder enjoyed loan spells with Crawley Town, Wigan Athletic, Kilmarnock and Forest Green Rovers. He also made the senior matchday squad twice and was part of the Under-18 team that reached the 2021 FA Youth Cup final.
Injuries and difficult loan spells disrupted his progress, preventing him from making the breakthrough many expected.
Now a free agent at 22, Balagizi will be hoping for a fresh start and the opportunity to rebuild his career away from Liverpool.
