Richarlison Responds After De Zerbi Rules Him Out of Spurs Team
Richarlison has reacted on social media after Tottenham boss Roberto De Zerbi made it clear that the Brazilian will not feature for Spurs, even if he becomes available.
The 29-year-old was pushing to leave Tottenham during the summer transfer window. Spurs reportedly agreed a deal with Everton, but Richarlison was not interested in returning to his former club.
Brazilian side Vasco da Gama also showed strong interest and reportedly agreed a fee of around €20 million with Tottenham. However, the transfer eventually collapsed after Richarlison failed to reach an agreement over personal terms.
The situation has now become even more complicated, with reports claiming the striker has approached FIFA in an attempt to terminate his Tottenham contract.
Richarlison played in Spurs’ opening Premier League match against Brentford but has not featured since as uncertainty over his future continues.
Speaking ahead of Tottenham’s Carabao Cup meeting with Liverpool, De Zerbi confirmed that nothing had changed regarding Richarlison’s situation.
The Italian explained that he had spoken with Richarlison several times and even tried to convince him to remain at the club, but the forward made it clear that he wanted to leave.
De Zerbi also appeared frustrated when asked whether Richarlison could still contribute to the squad, responding by pointing out that Tottenham had already suffered a 3-0 defeat to Brentford with him on the pitch.
Richarlison later saw the manager’s comments and appeared to respond directly on social media.
The Spurs striker simply posted “Why?” alongside a crying emoji. 😢
Richarlison joined Tottenham from Everton for around £60 million in 2022 and has made 134 appearances for the club, scoring 32 goals. His current contract is set to expire at the end of the season.
