Tottenham, Newcastle and Aston Villa Monitoring Barcelona Defender Eric Garcia
Tottenham Hotspur, Newcastle United and Aston Villa are reportedly keeping a close watch on Barcelona defender Eric Garcia as they consider a potential move for the centre-back.
The 25-year-old already has Premier League experience from his spell with Manchester City, and he could now be in line for a return to English football if any of his admirers decide to step up their interest.
According to Sportowy, Spurs, Newcastle and Villa are all monitoring Garcia’s situation and could consider making an approach in the coming months.
Garcia attracting attention in England
Garcia is tied to Barcelona until 2031, putting the Spanish club in a strong negotiating position. As a result, any Premier League side looking to sign him in January could face a challenging deal.
Barcelona are reportedly demanding between €50 million and €55 million for the defender, a price that could discourage some interested clubs.
Tottenham have already invested heavily in strengthening their defence this summer, meaning another major centre-back signing may not be high on their list of priorities. The North London club could instead choose to direct its spending towards attacking reinforcements.
Newcastle could certainly use additional defensive depth, but Garcia’s valuation could make negotiations difficult. His willingness to join a club currently outside European competition could also become an important factor.
Aston Villa could also consider Garcia an appealing option. Under Unai Emery, Villa are continuing to develop an ambitious project, and the Barcelona defender could provide valuable experience and quality at the back.
Garcia is also believed to have attracted interest from clubs in Italy. After playing at the highest level in both Spain and England, the defender may eventually decide that a new challenge abroad is the right move for his career.
For now, Garcia’s future remains unclear, with Tottenham, Newcastle and Aston Villa all reportedly monitoring developments surrounding the Barcelona defender.
