Liverpool have received a fresh boost in their pursuit of Paris Saint-Germain winger Bradley Barcola after PSG president Nasser Al Khelaifi publicly addressed speculation surrounding the France international’s future.
Liverpool have been relatively quiet in the summer transfer window so far, making only two additions despite losing several key players. Victor Munoz arrived from Osasuna after the Reds triggered his €40 million release clause, while Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo joined on loan.
However, new manager Andoni Iraola is still looking to strengthen his squad, with Barcola reportedly one of Liverpool’s major attacking targets. The winger is believed to be unhappy with his current situation at PSG after struggling for regular opportunities in their star-studded attack.
Barcola was once again left without playing time during PSG’s UEFA Super Cup victory over Aston Villa, prompting further questions about his future. PSG chairman Al Khelaifi refused to rule out a departure, saying the club would wait and see what happens.
Liverpool are expected to consider making an official approach, although signing Barcola would require a huge financial commitment. Reports suggest PSG could demand as much as ÂŁ145 million for the 23-year-old.
The Reds have also looked at Barcola’s PSG teammate Ibrahim Mbaye as another potential option. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano claims Liverpool have held discussions with Mbaye’s new agent, Jorge Mendes, and could even explore signing both players.
However, PSG reportedly value the two wingers at almost €200 million (£171 million) combined, a figure considered far too high by Liverpool.
Despite the enormous asking price, Liverpool remain determined to bring in two wingers before the transfer window closes on September 1, particularly if Cody Gakpo completes a move to Tottenham Hotspur.
