Newcastle enter discussions to sign Liverpool star following Victor Munoz setback

NEWCASTLE IN TRANSFER TALKS FOR LIVERPOOL STAR AFTER MUNOZ SETBACK

Newcastle United have reportedly shifted their attention to a Liverpool player after missing out on the signing of Victor Munoz.

Munoz, 22, was close to joining Newcastle as a replacement for Anthony Gordon, with negotiations already well underway. However, Liverpool stepped in late, activated his £34.6m release clause, and completed the deal, securing his signature ahead of the Magpies.

The move is said to have frustrated Newcastle officials, marking another instance where Liverpool have beaten them to key transfer targets in recent windows.

Now, Eddie Howe’s side are exploring alternatives and are believed to be considering Liverpool winger Cody Gakpo. Reports suggest he is on Newcastle’s shortlist as a possible replacement for Gordon, with internal discussions already taking place.

Gakpo’s future has come under scrutiny following managerial changes at Liverpool and a mixed season in front of goal, despite previously being a key figure in their title-winning campaign. Tottenham are also said to be monitoring the Dutch international, adding further competition for his signature.

Newcastle are also reportedly assessing other attacking options, including Arsenal’s Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard, as they look to strengthen their forward line.

Meanwhile, Liverpool continue to scout attacking reinforcements of their own, with several high-profile names linked as the transfer window heats up.
