Newcastle issue brutally blunt statement confirming Bruno Guimaraes’ move to Arsenal

Newcastle issue brutally short statement confirming Bruno Guimaraes’ £75m move to Arsenal

Newcastle United have officially confirmed Bruno Guimaraes’ transfer to Arsenal, but the club’s remarkably brief statement has raised plenty of eyebrows.

The Magpies have endured a difficult summer transfer window, losing several important players. Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali reportedly departed for Barcelona and Tottenham respectively in deals worth around £170 million combined.

The club also parted ways with manager Eddie Howe following a disappointing pre-season defeat to Championship side Bristol City.

Now, after weeks of speculation, Newcastle captain Bruno Guimaraes has completed a £75 million move to Premier League champions Arsenal.

The 28-year-old midfielder has agreed a contract running until June 2030, with an option for an additional year.

Newcastle highlighted the financial significance of the deal in their announcement, stating that the transfer represented one of the ten highest fees ever received for a player aged 28 or older, while also setting a club record for a player of his age and position.

Guimaraes leaves St James’ Park after making 195 appearances and scoring 31 goals for Newcastle.

The club’s statement simply concluded by wishing the Brazilian and his family well.

Given Guimaraes’ importance to Newcastle, the short and seemingly cold farewell has attracted attention. He was captain during the club’s return to the Champions League and played a key role in their first major trophy since 1969.

Guimaraes, however, struck a much warmer tone when reflecting on his Newcastle career.

He admitted that leaving was one of the hardest decisions of his life but said he was proud of everything achieved during his time on Tyneside.

The Brazilian thanked the supporters, his teammates, coaching staff and the club’s leadership for making him and his family feel at home.

He also explained that, despite his strong connection with Newcastle, he felt ready for a new challenge and wanted to experience something different with his family.

Guimaraes could make his Arsenal debut as early as Sunday when the Gunners face Borussia Dortmund in the Emirates Cup final in London.
