Real Madrid and Barcelona Join Race for Liverpool Star Florian Wirtz Amid Transfer Uncertainty
Real Madrid and Barcelona are reportedly monitoring Liverpool midfielder Florian Wirtz as questions continue to emerge over his long-term future at Anfield.
According to reports from Spain, the two La Liga giants are among four major European clubs keeping an eye on the German international. Chelsea and Bayern Munich are also said to be interested in the 23-year-old playmaker.
Spanish Giants Eye Potential Move for Wirtz
Wirtz’s technical ability, creativity and attacking qualities could make him an attractive addition for both Real Madrid and Barcelona if an opportunity to sign him becomes available.
However, Liverpool have no immediate plans to sell the midfielder, having invested more than €100 million to bring him to Anfield from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer of 2025. The Reds are unlikely to give up on such a major signing after a relatively short period.
Nevertheless, Wirtz has struggled to consistently meet expectations since arriving in English football, potentially giving interested clubs reason to consider a future approach.
Chelsea could also have an advantage in the race, with manager Xabi Alonso having previously worked closely with Wirtz at Bayer Leverkusen. Their successful partnership included winning the Bundesliga title in 2024.
Meanwhile, Bayern Munich have admired the German midfielder for a long time and could renew their efforts to bring him back to the Bundesliga.
Liverpool Yet to Make a Decision on Wirtz’s Future
Wirtz recorded five goals and eight assists during his first season in England. However, his performances at the beginning of the 2026/27 campaign have done little to quieten the criticism surrounding his form.
His reported market value has also fallen, adding to the uncertainty over what lies ahead for the Liverpool star.
Despite the growing interest, Liverpool remain in a strong negotiating position, with Wirtz under contract until June 2030. There have been no confirmed formal offers from any of the clubs reportedly tracking him.
For now, a departure from Anfield is far from certain. The coming months will reveal whether Wirtz can rediscover his best form at Liverpool or whether Real Madrid, Barcelona, Chelsea or Bayern Munich will make a serious attempt to sign him in 2027.
