Liverpool have been dealt a setback after their defender was withdrawn from the France squad on Monday evening with a hamstring injury.

Liverpool Handed Injury Concern as Jeremy Jacquet Leaves France Squad

Liverpool have been handed a fresh injury concern after defender Jeremy Jacquet was withdrawn from the France squad with a hamstring problem.

The 21-year-old centre-back was left out of France’s Nations League clash with Belgium after suffering a strain to his left hamstring. Leny Yoro was brought into the starting lineup in his place.

Jacquet had featured in France’s previous two matches and completed 90 minutes just three days earlier, making the setback particularly frustrating.

The injury could be a major worry for Liverpool, with Andoni Iraola’s side preparing to face Manchester City in a crucial Premier League clash on Sunday.

Jacquet has quickly established himself as an important part of Iraola’s defence alongside Virgil van Dijk since arriving at Anfield this summer. His absence would therefore leave Liverpool with another selection headache.

The Reds are already dealing with injury concerns involving Cody Gakpo and Alexander Isak, who both returned early from international duty.

If Jacquet is unable to recover in time for the City match, Joe Gomez could be called upon to fill the gap in defence.

Jacquet’s first international break had initially been a memorable one after earning his first France call-up, but the hamstring issue has now brought an unfortunate end to his camp.

Liverpool will now wait for further updates on his condition before determining whether he can feature against Manchester City.
