Milos Kerkez has returned to Liverpool earlier than expected after leaving the Hungary national team camp ahead of their final fixture of the international break against Ukraine.
The Hungarian Football Federation confirmed that the Liverpool left-back was released from the squad on Sunday after picking up a suspension for the upcoming Nations League clash.
Kerkez received his second yellow card of the competition during Hungary’s 1–0 victory over Georgia on Friday, meaning he is unavailable for Monday’s meeting with Ukraine. His first booking came in Hungary’s earlier match against Ukraine, while the second was shown in the 74th minute against Georgia.
The Georgia game was particularly memorable for Kerkez, as he scored the only goal of the match with a first-half header to register his first senior international goal. His strike also secured Hungary their first Nations League win of the campaign.
With Kerkez suspended for the final international fixture, Hungary have allowed him to leave camp early and return to Liverpool. The decision gives the 22-year-old additional time to rest before resuming preparations with the Reds.
That could prove useful for Liverpool, who are scheduled to face Manchester City at Anfield on October 11 when club football resumes. Kerkez will now have several days to recover and prepare for the demanding Premier League encounter.
