Former Arsenal Star Mohamed Elneny Makes Surprise Free Transfer to Greek Side Levadiakos

Former Arsenal midfielder Mohamed Elneny has completed a surprise free transfer to Greek club Levadiakos.

The 34-year-old Egypt international was available as a free agent after leaving UAE outfit Al-Jazira at the end of last season.

Levadiakos confirmed Elneny’s arrival on Tuesday, although the club has not disclosed the length or financial terms of his contract. He will play his home matches at the Levadia Municipal Stadium, which holds around 5,900 spectators.

Elneny spent eight years at Arsenal, joining the Premier League club from Swiss side Basel in January 2016. During his time in North London, he made 161 appearances in all competitions and scored six goals.

He was part of the Arsenal team that lifted the FA Cup in 2017 and also won two Community Shields. He also featured during Arsenal’s run to the 2019 Europa League final.

The midfielder left Arsenal in 2024 and subsequently spent two seasons with Abu Dhabi-based Al-Jazira. Before his Arsenal spell, Elneny had played for Egyptian club Al-Mokawloon Al-Arab and Turkish giants Besiktas.

Speaking to Levadiakos supporters, Elneny said he was delighted to begin a new chapter with the club and promised to give his best for the team.

His arrival comes at a difficult time for Levadiakos, who have collected just one point from their opening five league matches and are currently at the bottom of the Greek top flight.

Elneny will now be hoping his experience can help the club improve its fortunes.
